Who Is Jesus? – A 10-Day Devotional for New Believers

Day 1: Jesus, the Son of God

Matthew 3:17 NIV – “And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’”

Devotional Thought:
When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, God the Father declared, “This is my Son.” This moment was not just a confirmation for Jesus, but for everyone watching. It was God Himself revealing to the world that Jesus is His Son — not merely a prophet, not merely a wise man, but the divine Son of the Living God.

This matters for us because everything about our faith rests on this truth. If Jesus is only a good man, then His death means nothing more than the death of any other. But because He is the Son of God, His sacrifice carries the weight of eternity. His blood has the power to forgive sins, and His resurrection has the power to bring life.

Jesus being the Son of God also shows us the heart of the Father. As Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Everything He did — healing, forgiving, teaching, and even rebuking — reveals to us what God is like.

And here’s the beautiful part: because of Jesus, you are now called a child of God. When the Father looks at you, covered by the blood of Jesus, He says, “This is my beloved child.” You are no longer a stranger or orphan — you belong in God’s family.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you personally that Jesus is the Son of God?

  2. How does His identity as God’s Son give you confidence in your salvation?

  3. Do you believe God calls you His child in the same way He declared His love for Jesus?

Prayer:
Father, I thank You for sending Jesus, Your Son, to show me who You are and to save me. Help me to grow in confidence in my new identity as Your child. Remind me daily that I am loved and that I belong to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 2: Jesus, the Word Made Flesh

John 1:14 NIV – “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Devotional Thought:
Jesus did not remain distant from humanity — He stepped into our world. John calls Him the Word made flesh. This means that everything God wanted to say to humanity, He said through Jesus. Instead of sending another prophet, He came Himself.

By becoming flesh, Jesus experienced everything we do: hunger, tiredness, grief, betrayal, temptation, and joy. He can fully relate to our struggles and weaknesses because He lived them. Yet, unlike us, He never sinned. That’s why Hebrews 4:15 tells us He is a High Priest who can empathize with our weaknesses.

Through His life, Jesus revealed God’s glory. He was full of grace — forgiving sinners, healing the broken, restoring the outcast. And He was full of truth — never compromising God’s standard, always teaching with authority. Grace without truth would leave us in sin. Truth without grace would crush us under guilt. Jesus brings both in perfect harmony.

This means that when you read about Jesus, you are seeing the heart of God. Every story about Him in Scripture is a window into God’s love, holiness, and plan.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does knowing Jesus lived a real human life encourage you?

  2. Where have you seen His grace and truth in your own journey so far?

  3. In what ways can you begin to reflect His grace and truth toward others?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming flesh and living among us. Thank You for showing me who God is through Your life. Help me to reflect both Your grace and Your truth in how I live each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 3: Jesus, the Lamb of God

📖 John 1:29 NIV – “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’”

Devotional Thought:
In the Old Testament, lambs were sacrificed as a substitute for sin. Every year during Passover, the blood of a lamb reminded Israel that God had spared them. But those sacrifices had to be repeated over and over — they could never completely erase sin.

When John the Baptist called Jesus “the Lamb of God,” it was a prophetic declaration that Jesus would become the ultimate sacrifice. He wasn’t just another lamb — He was the Lamb, the one who would take away the sin of the world once and for all.

This means your sin — past, present, and future — was nailed to the cross with Him. You no longer have to live under guilt and shame. The blood of Jesus covers it all. What once separated you from God has been removed by the Lamb.

Now, you can walk in freedom. You don’t have to earn forgiveness. You don’t have to sacrifice anything else. The Lamb of God has already paid the full price.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does it make you feel knowing Jesus became the sacrifice for your sins?

  2. What guilt or shame do you need to let go of today because of His forgiveness?

  3. How can you live in freedom and gratitude because of His sacrifice?

Prayer:
Jesus, You are the Lamb of God who takes away my sin. Thank You for paying the price I could never pay. Help me to live each day in the freedom and joy of Your forgiveness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 4: Jesus, the Savior of the World

📖 Luke 19:10 NIV – “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Devotional Thought:
Jesus didn’t come for the perfect or the righteous — He came for the broken, the hurting, and the lost. His mission was clear: to seek and to save. That means He actively pursues us, even when we’re far away.

Think about that. You didn’t find Jesus — He found you. His love chased you down, even when you were running the other way. That’s how much He cares. Salvation is not about your effort to climb to God; it’s about God coming down to rescue you.

And salvation isn’t just about eternity — it starts now. Jesus saves us from sin’s grip, from guilt’s weight, and from hopelessness. He gives us a new heart, a new spirit, and a new future. He pulls us out of the darkness and sets us on solid ground.

This truth is meant to give you confidence. You are not barely saved. You are fully saved. Jesus completed the mission for you.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you personally that Jesus came to “seek and save”?

  2. How has Jesus rescued you in your own story?

  3. Who in your life might need to hear that Jesus came for them too?

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for seeking me when I was lost. Thank You for saving me, not because of what I’ve done, but because of who You are. Help me to rest in Your salvation and to share it with others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 5: Jesus, the Good Shepherd

📖 John 10:11 NIV – “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

Devotional Thought:
In calling Himself the Good Shepherd, Jesus painted a picture that His listeners understood well. Shepherds lived with their sheep, guiding them, protecting them, and even risking their lives for them. Sheep without a shepherd wander, get lost, and fall prey to danger. But with a shepherd, they are safe and cared for.

Jesus isn’t just any shepherd — He is the Good Shepherd. He doesn’t abandon His flock when trouble comes. Instead, He laid down His very life for us. That’s the greatest proof of His love. He didn’t save us from a distance; He stepped into danger, bore our sin, and died in our place.

As the Good Shepherd, Jesus also leads us. He knows each of us by name and calls us personally. His sheep know His voice and follow Him. He doesn’t drive us like cattle; He walks ahead of us and invites us to walk in His footsteps.

This means that you are never alone. Jesus is guiding you, protecting you, and watching over you. Even when you don’t feel His presence, the Good Shepherd is near.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does the picture of Jesus as your Shepherd encourage you?

  2. What dangers or fears do you need to entrust to His care today?

  3. Are you learning to recognize and follow His voice?

Prayer:
Jesus, You are my Good Shepherd. Thank You for laying down Your life for me. Teach me to hear Your voice more clearly and to follow wherever You lead. Keep me safe in Your care. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 6: Jesus, the Light of the World

📖 John 8:12 NIV – “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”

Devotional Thought:
Light is essential. It reveals what is hidden, guides us safely, and brings life. Without it, we stumble, get lost, and live in fear. In the same way, spiritual darkness blinds us to truth, leaving us confused and hopeless.

But Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world.” He is the one who breaks through the darkness of sin, ignorance, and despair. His light reveals the truth about God, about us, and about how to live. It drives away fear and replaces it with hope.

For new believers, this is especially important. Following Jesus doesn’t mean you’ll never face hard times, but it does mean you’ll never face them in the dark. His light gives you direction, clarity, and assurance that you’re not walking alone.

And here’s the incredible part: Jesus also calls us to reflect His light. In Matthew 5:14, He says, “You are the light of the world.” As you follow Him, His light shines through you so that others can see Him in your life.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What areas of your life need the light of Jesus right now?

  2. How has Jesus already brought light into your story?

  3. How can you reflect His light to others this week?

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for being the Light of the World and the light in my life. Shine into my heart and drive out the darkness. Help me reflect Your light so others can see You through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 7: Jesus, the Bread of Life

📖 John 6:35 NIV – “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”

Devotional Thought:
We all know what it’s like to be hungry or thirsty. Food and water are basic human needs — without them, we can’t survive. In the same way, our souls hunger and thirst for something deeper. Many people try to satisfy this hunger with success, relationships, money, or entertainment, but none of these things can truly satisfy.

Jesus says He is the Bread of Life. Just as bread nourishes our bodies, He nourishes our souls. When we come to Him, He satisfies the deepest longings of our hearts. He gives meaning, hope, and joy that nothing in this world can provide.

This doesn’t mean life will be perfect or easy. But it does mean that in every season, Jesus is enough. He is our source of strength, peace, and purpose. When we rely on Him daily, like bread, He sustains us.

As you grow in your faith, remember that spiritual hunger can only be satisfied in Him. Make it a habit to “feed” on His Word and draw strength from His presence.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What “hungers” have you tried to satisfy apart from Jesus?

  2. How has Jesus already begun to fill your soul with peace and joy?

  3. What practices can you start to stay nourished by Him daily?

Prayer:
Jesus, You are the Bread of Life. Forgive me for trying to satisfy my soul with other things. Teach me to turn to You daily for strength and fulfillment. Thank You for being enough for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 8: Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life

📖 John 14:6 NIV – “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Devotional Thought:
This is one of the boldest statements Jesus ever made. He didn’t say He knew the way — He said He is the way. He didn’t say He taught truth — He said He is the truth. He didn’t say He gave life — He said He is the life.

In a world filled with confusion and competing voices, Jesus makes it simple: if you want to know God, follow Him. There is no other path, no shortcut, no alternative. He alone reconciles us to the Father through His death and resurrection.

For new believers, this truth is a strong anchor. Don’t be shaken by doubts or questions. Salvation is not based on your effort, but on His finished work. Eternal life is not found in rules, rituals, or good deeds — it’s found in Jesus alone.

And because He is the way, truth, and life, you can trust Him completely. He won’t mislead you. He won’t fail you. He won’t abandon you. Following Him will always lead you home.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you personally that Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life”?

  2. How does this verse help you when doubts or questions arise?

  3. Who in your life needs to know that Jesus is the only way?

Prayer:
Jesus, I believe You are the way, the truth, and the life. Thank You for making a way for me to know God. Help me trust You when I don’t have all the answers, and give me courage to share this truth with others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 9: Jesus, the Resurrected Lord

📖 John 11:25–26 NIV – “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?’”

Devotional Thought:
The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of Christianity. Without it, our faith would be empty. But because Jesus rose from the dead, He has power over death itself. This is what sets Him apart from every other religious leader in history.

When Jesus declared, “I am the resurrection and the life,” He wasn’t only talking about His own resurrection — He was offering life to everyone who believes in Him. For those who trust Him, physical death is not the end. Eternal life is guaranteed.

This truth should give you confidence and hope. No matter what happens in this life — even death itself — Jesus holds the final word. His resurrection means your future is secure, your hope is alive, and your faith is not in vain.

Living with this perspective changes how we face trials. We don’t live for this world alone; we live with eternity in mind. Our hope is in the risen Lord.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does knowing Jesus rose from the dead strengthen your faith?

  2. What fears about death or the future do you need to surrender to Him?

  3. How can you live with a resurrection mindset each day?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering death and rising from the grave. Because You live, I have hope and eternal life. Help me to live with courage and confidence in Your victory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 10: Jesus, King of Kings and Lord of Lords

📖 Revelation 19:16 NIV – “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Devotional Thought:
Jesus came first as a humble servant, riding on a donkey. But one day He will return as the conquering King, riding on a white horse, crowned with glory. His title will be undeniable: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

This means there is no power above Him, no authority greater, no name higher. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10–11). The same Jesus who saved you as the Lamb of God is also the King who reigns forever.

For you as a believer, this truth is both comforting and challenging. Comforting, because you know your King reigns over all — your struggles, your fears, your enemies. Challenging, because following Him means surrendering every area of your life to His rule.

Your story doesn’t end with being saved — it continues with living under the lordship of Jesus, serving Him faithfully until the day He returns. You are not just His follower; you are part of His kingdom.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

  2. Is there any area of your life you haven’t fully surrendered to His lordship?

  3. How can you live daily with Jesus as your King?

Prayer:
Jesus, You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I surrender my life fully to Your rule. Help me live each day in obedience and honor to You, and give me courage to proclaim Your name until You return. In Jesus' name, Amen.
